On a listing for every wig you’ll notice there’s more information regarding the finer details for each wig design.
At the Petite Wig Company, we focus entirely on cap sizes that suits petite-average head sizes 20.5-21.5″ circumference. We have found that here in Australia, a large proportion of our wig community actually have smaller heads that what is deemed ‘average’ in the industry.
When it comes to wig measurements and what they mean, this is referring to the length of the hair fibres in each individual wig. This varies greatly fro wig to wig and distinguishes between short – medium – long styles.
Without a general knowledge of wigs, wig measurements and what they mean could involved some guess work, so here’s a handy quick blog on exactly what each measurement refers to. You’ll be an expert in reading these measurements in no time !!
WIG MEASUREMENTS EXPLAINED
A fringe is measured at the front of the wig from the hairline. The measurement shows the length of the fibre from the hairline to end of the fibre.
The nape can be found at the base of your head (under the occipital bone) – where you neck and head join pretty much!
The longest length of fibre is measured from nape area to end of the fibre to obtain the Nape measurement
The crown of your head is located at the top (slightly towards the back) of your head.
A crown measurement will be the shortest to longest lengths of fibres from the crown part of the wig to the end of the fibre
On a wig you’ll find ear tabs on each side. This is where a side measurement will start from. The fibre is measured from here to the end to result in a side measurement.
The back of a wig indicates the measurements of the shortest fibres to the longest fibres. This measurement is started at the crown and taken down the length of the fibres at the back.
This is generally how we respond to the question ‘how long is your hair”. The overall length measurement starts at the top of your head slightly towards the back (your nape) and goes all the way to the bottom of the longest fibre
